Great Salt Lake Sunset

Sunset over the Great Salt Lake in Utah was a sight to behold! The thick, salty water seemed to soak in the colors of the sunset more than fresh water or even the ocean. Mountains lined the lake in th distance, but everything blended together creating an endless sea of colors. Earlier in the evening I went for a swim (float!) in the lake and for this picture I was standing knee deep in the water...the thick water felt like cool gel against my skin. And afterwards I could feel the salt cracking on my body. It was such a unique experience and I'm so happy I finally got to see and feel the Great Salt Lake! Canyonlands Sunrise

Standing on a giant rock in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park in Utah, I'm surrounded by total darkness as I wait for the sun to rise. I know the vast landscape is spread out before me, but I can't see a thing. Then, the orange glow begins in the distance. Soon the landscape starts to come to life and I can see details of the rocks. Layers upon layers of formations go on for miles. The sky gets brighter and suddenly, the sun breaks the horizon casting sunlight across the desert before me.

Fall Reflection

Beaver Dam Pond in Acadia National Park shows some of the most beautiful details on a cool, autumn day. Fog rises off the pond while dramatic fall colors reflect on the water.

Winding River

The Little Missouri River snakes through the badlands of Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota during a beautiful sunset. After watching the sunset from this remote point in the park, I came face to face with both coyotes and bison on the way home. This park definitely has a wild, untouched side that I hope never changes.

Mojave Desert Sunset

Camping on some elevated rocks in Mojave National Preserve, I was greeted with this incredible sunset. The afternoon had been stormy and rainy, but as the sun lowered beneath the clouds, the landscape and the mountains lit up and showed their true colors.

Colorful Big Sur

When the fog disappears and the coastline comes to life, Big Sur has some of the most beautiful sunsets. Dramatic cliffs line ocean and waves constantly crash over rocks. Any clouds and fog that are leftover from the day illuminate as the sun sets in the horizon.

Death Valley First Light

Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park is known for its sunrises. The first light hits the mountains in the distance turning them bright red. Snow capped Telescope Peak, the highest point in Death Valley, gently hides behind some clouds in the distance. The white salt flats in the valley start to illuminate as well as the nearby badlands. Swirls, patterns, and colorful mineral deposits can be seen scattered throughout. Truly a great spot to wake up and start the day!

Joshua Tree Colors

Catching the sunset in the desert in Joshua Tree National Park is a dream come true. Splashes of orange paint the sky and purple shadows deepen the mountains while the Joshua Trees take in the scene before them.

Purple Desert Sunset

Watching the Ajo Mountains at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, I couldn't believe my eyes as the mountains turned a beautiful, deep, purple color. The shadows crept slowly up the valley as the sun set and the surrounding cacti stood out against the changing light.

Sunflowers and Skies

The morning was foggy with an ominous feeling, but the sunflowers were bright and a great contrast against the sky. It was impossible to capture all of the sunflowers in one picture, but it looked like an ocean of yellow.

Moon on the Water

I was driving down the road on my way to capture the sunrise at a planned destination. When I drove around a corner, I was greeted with this view that took me by surprise. I immediately stopped to take in the scenery. The moon was lighting up the mountains as well as reflecting beautifully off the lake.

Bison Against the Denver Skyline

Every time I visit Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, I take my time driving around and really take in the landscape and the animals. The bison are my favorite animals to capture. Here I captured a bison against the Denver skyline.

Aruban Sunset

Watching the sunset each night in the desert was an experience I'll never forget. Although the nearby ocean is a popular spot for watching the sunset, the cacti in the desert were what drew me in each night. Here I captured silhouettes of cacti against the bright sun setting in the west over the ocean.
