Trail of Gold
Every fall in Colorado, the leaves turn bright yellow and the trails turn gold. As I was hiking through Kenosha Pass on this trail, I was hesitant to move forward as I didn't want to step on the beautiful yellow leaves. The trail was laid out before so golden and so inviting.
Lines Forever in the Sand
Here the while sand takes on the deep colors of the sky as the sun begins to rise. White Sands National Monument in New Mexico is truly a magical place where the landscape is always changing with the winds.
From the Far East to the Far West
Standing on this road in the far east of Denver, the sunset illuminated the mountains in the far west. Airplanes were flying overhead as they took off and land at nearby Denver International Airport. Surrounding me in every direction were the flat plains of eastern Colorado.
Sun Glare Road
One of my favorite things about capturing sun glare is that it's always different with no two pictures alike. As I stood on this road in Grand Teton National Park for the sunrise, I let the sun catch the side of my camera giving the road and the trees a soft look.
Inside the Yellow Leaves and White Snow
Pretty much during every fall in Colorado, there is a light dusting of snow that covers the yellow leaves of the Aspens. As I wandered about Kenosha Pass, I was greeted with beautiful white snow and yellow leaves. Truly a magical moment that only comes once a year.
Portrait of a Bison
This guy was fun to watch and capture. I nicknamed him "Scratchy" because when I first saw him, he was scratching himself against a big concrete block. I love how he has grass all over him as he makes eye contact with me.
Tree During Golden Hour
I love the simplicity of this image. The sun was setting and the tall grass turned golden. I captured this tree while hanging out of the window of my car since I was in the bison area of the park where visitors are not allowed out of their cars.
Tree in the East, Mountains in the West
This tree was sitting alone against the backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in the distance. The sun had just set and everything was turning down for the night. I captured this tree while hanging out of the window of my car since I was in the bison area of the park and visitors are not allowed out of their cars.
The Layers of Cacti
As the sun rose in the distance, I captured a prickly pear cactus against a larger saguaro cactus in the background. The details of the prickly pear cactus can be seen here including each individual thorn.
Big Foam Finger Cactus
As I captured this saguaro cactus against the moon, I couldn't help but think of the big foam fingers sold at sporting events. I love how each and every cactus have their own personalities.
Monument Valley Under a Starry Sky
The starry sky goes on forever above West Mitten Butte in this capture. Although the butte itself is huge, the vast sky above it reminds me that everything is considered small when it comes to outer space.
Bison Against the Denver Skyline
Every time I visit Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, I take my time driving around and really take in the landscape and the animals. The bison are my favorite animals to capture. Here I captured a bison against the Denver skyline.
Jupiter Shining
With this long exposure picture, Jupiter sure did know how to show off. It sits high above the trees while the clouds move quickly across the sky. This was a long beautiful night spent in Rocky Mountain National Park. There were no people but lots of wildlife.
A Mess of Wildflowers and Aspens
The wildflowers are in abundance and the aspens go on forever. I captured this image while backpacking through Lost Creek Wilderness. After a very steep climb, I came upon this hidden spot.
Wildfire Moon
With the wildfires blazing strongly in the west, the moon took on a strong pink color as it rose in the sky high above the Rocky Mountains. Here I captured it just before climbing into my tent for the night.
Looking Up the Yellow Tree
One of my favorite images, this is a classic yet abstract view of what fall looks like in Colorado. I captured this image while enjoying a beautiful drive through Guanella Pass.
Follow the Fence to Fall
As I was driving through Guanella Pass on a beautiful fall day, this fence on the side of the road got my attention. I pulled over and captured the fence leading the way to the bright yellow leaves of fall.
Starry Palm Tree
While in Belize for a scuba diving trip, I captured this palm tree against the starry night sky. The sea breeze was blowing gently and the moon was resting in the background.
South Dakota Bison
Custer State Park in South Dakota is well known for large numbers of bison roaming throughout the park. I spotted this bison lazily grazing on some grass. The air was still and the day was foggy. I watched him for a few minutes before leaving him in peace.
Road to Nowhere
Driving around Custer State Park in South Dakota, some of the roads blend into the sky. This squiggly road caught my attention as it carved through the grassland. The neverending sky on top gives the picture a minimalist look. Wherever this road leads to is limited by your imagination.
Galveston Sunset
Camping in Galveston State Park, I enjoyed daily walks on the beach during sunset and watching the birds dance with the waves. After the sunset, the sky took on beautiful hues of pink while the ocean turned a vibrant blue. This sandpiper seemed content as he frolicked around in the water.
Foggy Mountain Creek
Spending two weeks in the Great Smoky Mountains during fall allowed me to experience all kinds of different weather. One day I woke up to rain and fog, but set off on a hike anyway. As I made my way down the slippery trail with fallen leaves everywhere, I came upon this beautiful mountain creek. The sound of the water combined with the cool mountain air was enough to make me sit and enjoy the scenery.
